The Center for Disease Control, Institute for Research and Evaluation and Prevention (Dr. S. Weed)
and National Survey of Teens (Kaiser Family) reported the following...

Teen Pregnancy Rates Fall Again
-
“Durham, NC. – “North Carolina teen pregnancy rate fell 12% last year, according to data released by the North Carolina State Center for Health Statistics. The change represents the single biggest year-to-year drop ever and reduces teen pregnancy to the lowest levels in the state’s history.
-
The teen pregnancy rate is 58% lower than it was when it peaked in 1990.
-
Reduced pregnancies among girls of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, helping to minimize some historical disparities. Pregnancies to white, black, and Hispanic teens dropped 11%, 12%, and 13%.
-
Teen birth rate dropped by 9% and the teen abortion rate dropped by 12%.
-
Historically, more than 10% of girls in some counties get pregnant each year. By targeting the most deeply affected communities with effective programs, were increasing our return on investments.”

CAE Facts
"Sexuality education is a component of health education - and it is supported by parents, researchers, and public policy."
Decades of research have proven:
-
Students who receive sexuality education wait longer to have sex than students who receive no sexuality education
-
Sexuality education does not encourage sexual activity
-
Students who receive comprehensive or evidence-based sexuality education are less likely to get pregnant or cause a pregnancy – one of the leading causes of dropout”.

Abstinence Message to Parents…
Parents--
Together we can help reduce the chance of your child becoming a teen parent by encouraging adolescents to remain abstinent and become savvy in abstinence facts. It is very important to set the record straight about sex education. Remember, there is no cure for AIDS and many sexually- transmitted diseases. Did you know…“Nearly 70% of North Carolina high school seniors have had sex. Fewer than half of those students used protection the last time." (www.appcnc.org) Help your child make informed decisions about abstinence.
